| National Objectives |
|
Decree-Law no. 196/2003 establishes the following general targets for ELV management:
- reduction of the amount of waste from ELV sent to disposal;
- continuous improvement of the environmental performance of all the operators involved in the automobile life cycle, particularly the ones directly related with the treatment of ELV;
This law also establishes that the operators involved in the vehicle life cycle should adopt adequate measures in order to:
Make sure that the following objectives are accomplished no later than the 1st January 2006:
- reuse and recovery of all ELV increased to a minimum of 85% by an average weight per vehicle and year;
- reuse and recycling of all ELV increased to a minimum of 80% by an average weight per vehicle and year;
Make sure that, the following objectives are accomplished no later than the 1st January 2015:
- reuse and recovery of all ELV increased to a minimum of 95% by an average weight per vehicle and year;
- reuse and recycling of all ELV increased to a minimum of 85% by an average weight per vehicle and year.
