More than 23 thousand tons of lead-acid batteries were collected by VALORCAR NETWORK in 2025. The majority of the battery waste was sent to a national recycler, and the remainder was sent to two recyclers in Spain. At these facilities, the lead is melted down for later use in the manufacture of new batteries, the plastic is reprocessed to manufacture various products, and the electrolyte is neutralized or reconverted and used in the chemical industry.
In the same period, more than 167 tons of lithium-ion battery waste (mainly from hybrid and electric vehicles) were also collected. These batteries can still be reconditioned and reused for energy storage, or disassembled in order to separate their components and materials for recycling.
At the end of 2025, VALORCAR NETWORK had 383 battery collection centers.
