VALORCAR is supporting and collaborating with FEUP - School of Engineering of the University of Porto in an R&D project on the recycling of catalysts, supplying this type of components from end-of-life vehicles.
The study is coordinated by Prof. Helena Soares of the Chemical Engineering Department of FEUP and aims to separate the precious metals contained in used automotive catalysts, using hydrometallurgy techniques. This initiative also counts on the collaboration of MEGAPEÇAS, LDA in making available and preparing the catalysts used in the project.
In 2020, VALORCAR NETWORK centers reused or recycled more than 220 tons of used catalysts.
